Border regions operations
Since European Union border regions faced various challenges in the enlargement process, the programmes of the North, East and South zone included a special topic on operations linking European Union border regions with the candidate countries. The operations foreseen under this topic included individual projects as well as networks.
They encouraged and facilitated cooperation in the EU external border regions in order to strengthen their economic competitiveness. Lead partners had to be located in the border regions to the candidate countries defined in the programmes. Furthermore, a number of special rules applied. For detailed information, please download the respective Community Initiative Programme (CIP).
Applications had to be submitted to the INTERREG IIIC zone where the Lead partner was situated.

Border regions in the EU
